Arrival of the Queen of ShebaArrival of the Queen of Sheba Ref: UM1387
GF Handel
arr. Lauren Scott
This famous interlude from Handel’s oratorio Solomon has been arranged as an equal duet for two pedal harps by Lauren Scott. The melody is split between the two parts. This means it will be easier to play at a livelier tempo than is normally comfortable when the piece is played as a solo. Both harpists need to be aware of the long melodic line so as to create a ‘stereophonic’ effect between the two harps. Suggested dynamics have been added to this arrangement, but the addition of more dynamics and different tonal colours, such as PDLT, will enhance the performance. The challenge with this arrangement is to maintain its brisk tempi, and to carefully tailor the dynamics so that they dovetail between the two harps. This way the two players sound like one!

ElegyElegy Ref: UM1401
Lauren Scott

Elegy is based on an insistent recurring vibrato note, reminiscent of an ululation. Many cultures use this haunting sound to express sorrow, emotion and reverence. The anniversary of the loss of a loved-one is always a poignant time, and the other-worldly sound of the ululation captures that sense of loss. It also signifies inner strength, dignity and respectful remembrance long after the initial grief has subsided. Elegy was composed in the lead up to the 100 year anniversary of the Armistice Day and was premiered by Alexander Rider on 4th January 2019

The Wayfaring StrangerThe Wayfaring Stranger Ref: UM1520
Trad. arrnged Andy Scott
Edited Lauren Scott

A beautiful and melancholy traditional tune, that lends itself to arranging with many varied and wonderful arrangements available. Andy Scott arranged The Wayfaring Stranger for the 'Ever Open Door' CD collaboration with John Helliwell (Supertramp), releasing October 2020 (Challenge Records). Scored for clarinet, string quartet and hammond organ, it takes a harmonic journey with twists and turns through many keys; fairly chromatic at times, simple and open at other times. With careful damping, nimble pedal work and focussing on phrasing, Lauren Scott has created a version of this arrangement for solo harp.
