IndianaIndiana Ref: adlais203
Andres Izmaylov (b. 1974)

This work was written for the USA International Harp Competition 2012 Composition Contest, Bloomington, Indiana, USA and, incorporating authentic North American Indian tunes as it does, inevitably, it could only be called Indiana. However, Indiana was actually composed on the other side of the world in a small village called Angen-Lakhta in Karelia, Northwestern Russia, 450 Km (300 miles) north of St. Petersburg, where there is no electricity or even a road - just a dirt track through the woods. It was to this remote and very silent place that Andres Izmaylov took his harp and created Indiana.

Sonatka in CSonatka in C Ref: adlais141
Libero, Allegro molto; Adagio molto; Allegro
Andres Izmaylov (b. 1974)

The term Sonata is not often encountered in the harp repertoire outside the true 'classical' sonatas of the late eighteenth century and the neo-classical sonatas of the twentieth century. Andres Izmaylov has kept to the classic three movement sonata in his stunning new work.

Toward the SunToward the Sun Ref: adlais142
Andres Izmaylov (b. 1974)

Toward the Sun, a duo for two harps, described by Andres Izmaylov as 'a little Jazzy Joke', was written for the composer and his young son, then ten years old, to play together. Delightful, witty and amusing for audience and performers alike, the two parts are well adapted for teacher or advanced student (Grades 6-7) playing with a younger student or less advanced pupil. The second harp part is well within the reach of anyone who has reached Grades 3-4 standard, and as there are no key or lever changes, it has the advantage of being playable on lever as well as concert harp.

DuoDuo Ref: adlais144
Suite for Violin and Harp
Andres Izmaylov (b. 1974)

'Duo' is a love story and a dialogue in four scenes. The dramatis personae are A Man (played by the violin) and A Woman (played by the harp). The Meeting, initiated by the violin, develops into a flirtatious waltz and an awakening of tender love. Then follows Prayer a tender love-song with a beautiful violin melody over a rocking, hypnotic harp part. However, the course of true love never did run smooth and the music leads next into an angry Quarrel, but after this long, violent interchange the music suddenly breaks off and there comes a solo violin cadenza (Lento) expressive of a touching, conciliatory regret. A final Reconciliation (Lento) brings the dialogue to a tenderly peaceful close.
