Romantic Pieces Ref: JM36SC |

They are all romantically influenced, but not necessarily placed within the stylistic considerations of the nineteenth century. Some have occasional 'new-age' influences, whilst in others the connoisseur might appreciate a modern romantic film style of influence. However, almost all of the pieces are eminently playable by promising students; those pianists who are certainly beyond the initial stages but whom have not yet arrived at tackling the great piano soloist's repertoire. The works are placed in no special order, though generally one can see a progression of technical difficulty as one advances through the collection. Furthermore, all the works are conceived as individual pieces, and consequently are not specifically connected in the form of a traditional suite. Having said that, it might well be sensible, and interesting, to group two or three pieces together in public performance; this can be chosen totally by personal taste. Whilst the writing in these compositions is almost always truly 'pianistic', and most useful as a technical tool by piano teachers and professors, it should be stressed at the same time that they are all first and foremost 'concert pieces', suitable for interpretation in both formal and informal situations. This has been the composer's clear aim in these creations. |
