Each tune is given in three versions: • melody • melody with an easy accompaniment • melody with an intermediate accompaniment and some embellishments The tunes chosen for this book are categorized by their makam. Makam is the Turkish music system by which melodies are created, shaped by colorful scales and inherent motivic characteristics. Eight makams are featured in this book, with each makam featuring two tunes that can be played one after the other or alone.
